Begining the Conversation for History and Civics Classrooms

Join The UC Santa Cruz History & Civics Project and the UC Irvine Teacher Academy for a webinar panel discussion with education and legal experts to consider the importance of the Declaration of Independence, its impact on our shared history and the continuing relevance of these ideas for today. Panelists are:

  • Robert S. Chang, UCI Professor of Law and Sylvia Mendez Presidential Chair for Civil Rights and Executive Director of the UC Irvine School of Law Fred T. Korematsu Center for Law and Equality

  • Daisy Martin, PhD,  Site Director of The History & Civics Project at the University of California at Santa Cruz and faculty in the UCSC Master of Arts/Credential Program.

  • Jon Resendez, Social Studies Department Chair Portola High School and lecturer in the UCI Master of Arts Teaching Program.

When: January 28 4:00-5:00 PST via Zoom

Who: K-12 Educators, Higher Education Colleagues, and Community Members

Why: To consider the legacy of the Declaration of Independence as we start the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America
