Join the CHSSP's 2024 FREE Literacy in the History-Social Science Classroom Workshop Series!

Who: Middle and High School Teachers in the Sacramento Area

What: Four Part FREE Workshop Series:

  • January 23 - Close Reading: The session will center us back to the basics focusing on the importance of sourcing as a close reading strategy and a highlighting disciplinary literacy.
  • February 27 - Vocabulary in Context: Our second workshop will hone in on supporting students with defining vocabulary in context as well as reading complex texts.
  • March 19 - Writing with Evidence: A cornerstone for writing in history-social science is creating arguments supported by relevant evidence and strong analysis. This session will share both traditional and creative ways to target those skills.
  • April 16 - EL Writing Support: All students need a little extra support from time to time, and this session, while centering EL students, will share strategies beneficial to all by attending to accessibility.

When: Each Session will take place from 4:15-6:00, and include FREE DINNER.  Session Dates: January 23, February 27, March 19, April 16

Where: McClatchy High School, 3066 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento, 95818 (Space is limited based on room capacity)
