Filipino History Month: Ethnic Studies Professional Learning Workshop

Join the California History-Social Science Project in collaboration with Ethnic Studies YOLO Academy with award-winning children's author and performance facilitator Justine Villanueva, J.D. for a reading of her new book Mungan and Lola. This afterschool professional learning workshop connects reading, storytelling, and Ethnic Studies. Experience a read-aloud from the author as well as breakout workshops for students and teachers.

Youth/ ESYA participants will engage in activities about their own identities, family histories, and storytelling.

Teachers participants will have an opportunity to workshop how to use the book in their classrooms with K-16 students. 

Goals of the Workshop:

  1. Emphasize the importance of teaching history, identity, and stories of heritage
  2. Identify connections to content standards in Science, History-Social Science, and English Language Arts
