Breaking Down the Walls of Segregation: Mexican American Grassroots Politics and Civil Rights in Orange County, California
In 2024, California passed
AB 1805
which states that the Mendez et al v Westminster et al. case be taught across K-12 in California public schools.
In his book,
Breaking Down the Walls of Segregation
,
Dr. David-James Gonzales
provides a new interpretation of the origin of the school desegregation and civil rights movements in Southern California among ethnic Mexicans from the 1920s to 1960s.
We will meet virtually on April 30th 4:00-5:15pm and host a discussion with Dr. DJ Gonzales.
Registered participants will be provided with an excerpt from chapter 4 to prepare us for our virtual discussion.
