Breaking Down the Walls of Segregation: Mexican American Grassroots Politics and Civil Rights in Orange County, California

In 2024, California passed AB 1805 which states that the Mendez et al v Westminster et al. case be taught across K-12 in California public schools. In his book, Breaking Down the Walls of SegregationDr. David-James Gonzales provides a new interpretation of the origin of the school desegregation and civil rights movements in Southern California among ethnic Mexicans from the 1920s to 1960s.

Join us, in person, on the afternoon of Thursday May 7th from 4:30-6:30pm to celebrate this insightful new publication and a discussion with Dr. DJ Gonzales and other community knowledge holders about this time period in Orange County.
