Event Description:
If you have ever been curious about ethnic studies and how to bring in more social justice and people of color stories and histories into your elementary classroom, come join us for this interactive morning of sharing best practices, ideas for immediate implementation, sample units, lesson sets, prizes, and more!
This professional development session is open to Bay Area elementary educators and will focus on how to weave-in an ethnic studies lens into your pedagogy and curriculums.
About the presenter:
Joemy Ito-Gates (she/her), is a Multiracial Japanese American, transracial adoptee, mother, and ethnic studies educator with over twenty years of experience in education. She is currently the Ethnic Studies Teacher on Special Assignment for Berkeley Unified School District. She helped to co-found a summer program for Multiracial and Transracially raised youth in the early 2000’s and currently teaches Dharma School at her Japanese American Buddhist temple. She is a core member of the grassroots organizations, Japanese American Families for Justice and Berkeley Families for Collective Liberation.
