Leading Implementation of the History-Social Science Framework

Leading Implementation of the History-Social Science Framework:

The focus of this session is to ensure that systems are in place so that all students have access to history-social science instruction that deepens understanding of content, literacy, inquiry, and citizenship. Beginning with a review of the framework, including its instructional focus, participants will discuss why and how the framework requires a shift in the teaching and learning of history-social science. Additionally, the participants will discuss how these shifts align to the priorities of LCAP and are reflected in the California School Dashboard and how LCFF funds can be used to support history-social science instruction. Then, using the futures protocol as a guide,  participants will begin to determine next steps that will result in implementation of the framework. While engaged in the futures protocol, participants will:

  1.  Put themselves into the future in order to describe what successful implementation of the framework looks like (the ideal state)
  2. Move back to today to describe the current state of history-social science education in their own systems.
  3. Identify the action steps that are necessary to move from the current state to the ideal state.
